A Basic Introduction to Underground Mining

August 26, 2021. Underground mining usually involves the digging of subversive tunnels and rooms below ground surface. Underground mining is more expensive than surface mining and can be dangerous. This kind of mining is only used in areas where quality ore, such as gold, are concentrated in thin veins and other remarkably rich deposits. We use this for mining platinum. Large scale mechanised mining methods we use include: long-wall mining, where a long wall of coal is mined in a single slice, usually by a large machine. sub-level-caving, where levels of the ore are blasted by explosives; and ; block caving, where large areas of the ore body are blasted and then extracted with ...Digging deeper: Mining methods explained | Anglo AmericanSolution mining. In-situ Recovery (ISR), also known as in-situ leaching (ISL) or solution mining, is a mineral extraction method where ore is dissolved by a lixiviant, leached and pumped to surface.
